Berimbau (Guy
Mendilow): Guy’s berimbau sounds quite different from typical berimbaus
because of several modifications shown here, including a tuning mechanism made
of electric bass tuners and an elaborate amplification techniques (mostly consistenting
of putting a cheap TV mic Guy picked up in Mexico for 800 pesos inside the gourd
of the instrument and hoping the thing doesn't explode) that permit the sounds
of a full percussion kit including snare, high hat and “bass drum”
hits.
