Formed in 2004, the Ensemble has been enthusiastically received in venues ranging from world and traditional music festivals to performing arts centers, progressive Jewish organizations and universities.
Alongside touring with the Guy Mendilow Ensemble, members are on the faculty of leading music schools like Boston’s Berklee School of Music, New England Conservatory and the Swarnabhoomi Academy of Music in India and tour/record with the likes of Bobby McFerrin, Yo Yo Ma, the Assad Brothers, Christian McBride and Simon Shaheen. The Ensemble is currently
based in Boston, MA and New York, NY., USA.
The Ensemble’s latest touring show, Tales from the Forgotten Kingdom: Ladino Songs Renewed, sparks audiences’ fascination with the adventure, humour and grit in old Ladino songs from the Sephardi communities of Sarajevo, Salonica and Jerusalem. Through emotionally powerful, cinematographic arrangements and poetic narration, epic tales of love lost to the seas and the intrigue of kings and queens come alive for listeners.
Arts education and creative outreach are vital elements of the Guy Mendilow Ensemble’s work. The Ensemble engages audiences of many backgrounds and ages — from children to adults — with innovative university lecture demos, workshops and immersive community residencies.
